Тop-level specialist (mechanical engineer) of the vocational training programmes "Ship’s Power Plants and Equipment" and "Operation, Testing and Installation of Ship’s Power Plants" organizes competent accident-free operation of ship’s power plants (SPP) and energy facilities, which are the core of any vessel. High fuel efficiency, reliability, maneuverability, environmental friendliness, survivability and long service life of the SPP and the entire vessel depend on the specialist’s skills. He is also involved in the design, building, testing and installation of modern SPPs, which are compatible on the world vessel market.

Students are taught according to the general plans during the first four years of education, and then they are divided into more narrow areas of training – vocational training programmes.

The complex of special subjects, that are studied by the students of the mentioned vocational training programmes, gives them an understanding of the current state of the SPP and methods of their operation and design, prepares future mechanical engineers for self-sufficient operation. These subjects include courses in internal combustion engines, marine steam and gas turbines, ship’s power plants, mathematical modeling and design of SPPs, operation, diagnostics and testing of SPPs, etc.

Graduates of the vocational training programmes "Ship’s Power Plants and Equipment" and "Operation, Testing and Installation of Ship’s Power Plants" work in the marine and river fleets, shipbuilding and ship repair enterprises, in design organizations, in general mechanical engineering and housing and so on.

Graduates, who have demonstrated the aptitude for the research activities, are given the opportunity to continue their postgraduate studies in the scientific speciality "Engines and Power Plants".
